Good morning, Lord, what are we going to do together today?

I have been away this past weekend on a three-day retreat with forty-five men of God.  We were fully immersed in the presence of God with no distractions, no outside contact or worldly responsibilities.  That complete focus on our relationship with the God of our salvation is indeed a mountaintop experience.  It is a wonderful and sacred time.

However, it is not a place where we can live out our lives every day. It is only a time to get refueled and rededicated to the purpose and direction of this life.

So, I am home now, trying to get back into my routines and schedules, because there is much to do and many responsibilities to care for.  Needless to say, I am having some difficulty concentrating on the issues before me today.

My problem is that there is a part of me that is still back there, still savoring that personal intimacy with my Lord and Savior, still longing for that close connection.  Even wanting more of that great fellowship with my brother sojourners.   As I was thinking about that, it occurred to me that I should always be seeking that closeness, not just as a response to that special time apart from the world, but as a response to the constant touches of God in the everydayness of this life.

The Hasidic sect of the Jewish faith teaches a constant awareness of God’s presence, a sort of clinging or attachment to God. They even proclaim that this life should be a constant and continuing conversation with God every day of their lives.  I think we might take a lesson from them.  Have you talked to God today?

Yours in the Love of Christ,

Pastor Dick
