A couple of weeks ago my sister asked me a question in regards to the lyrics of the hymn entitled “Pass it On.” Her question was, Following the words “I’ll shout it from the mountain tops… what is it that we are supposed to shout? Initially, I responded with the lyrics that followed that question that says … “I want the world to know, the Lord of love has come to me, I want to pass it on.” She said, no! what are we supposed to shout? We bantered back and forth a little bit about what the answer should be and failed to arrive at a good answer. So, that question has been stewing in my brain ever since. I still don’t have a definitive answer but I have thought of several possibilities, most of which may depend on your life and your faith experiences.
What do you want your world to know? What is your witness? I am sure some would quote a favorite scripture passage. Others would tell of a moment when they connected with God in a sacred, Holy way. The question is general in nature but I think the answer is very personal.
For me, there are a number things I might shout, like, “Jesus loves you and there isn’t a thing you can do about it!” or I might quote my favorite hymn and proclaim “This is my story, this is my song, praising my savior all the day long.” I might even recall times when I felt lost and alone and God restored my wandering heart and renewed my fellowship with Him. But I think my most treasured response would be what I have said many times… “See, This is my Jesus, and He wants to be your Jesus too!”
