I live in a log house and there are little branch stubs on the outer surface of the logs where crystalized tree sap has collected and remains even after over forty years of wind and weather. Ordinarily this would not be a problem except for the fact that the squirrels seem to like this material and they come and chew on the side of my house. Now I can deal with the constant chewing sound, but I am concerned that they might be doing some further damage to the logs as they pursue this apparently tasty treat.
So, you are probably wondering what does this have to do with anything? As you have surely noticed over the years, I seem to have a way of seeing a biblical message In the strangest of things. But crystalized tree sap and hungry squirrels? This is a stretch even for me! However, as I sit here listening to that telltale chewing sound just outside my office window… or as the squirrel scratches for tree sap… or as the deer panteth for the water… So, my soul longeth after thee! I told you it was a stretch! The point is that everything in creation points in some way to the creator. We just have to be willing to see it. God leaves his footprint everywhere.
One song writer saw it in the peaceful scene of a deer drinking deeply from a forest stream. Another, in the stars and the rolling thunder and in the birds singing sweetly in the trees.
I heard God’s foontsteps this morning in that faint scratching sound as one of His creatures enjoyed the bounty that He provides. Make no mistake friends, God is everywhere. His voice whispers in the wind, His artistry is in the sky when the sun turns the clouds into a beautiful array of colors. His bounty is in the fields and forests providing food for the body and beauty for the soul. His power is in the sea as wave after wave crashes on welcoming shores. His love is in the hearts of His people as they learn to love one another and care and help and reach out as the hands of Jesus!
God is indeed everywhere. Where do you see Him today?
Yours in the love of Christ
