I have a sticker on the rear window of my truck that says; “I can’t, but I know a guy.” I think that is true for many of us. I can’t put a new roof on my house, but I know a guy who can. I can’t repair my car, but I know a guy who can. As I get older there is a growing list of the things that I simply cannot do anymore. There is also a growing list of the people that I know who can do those things. There is also a growing list of those things that I now recognize, that I never could do! I never could fix what is broken in my life, or what is injured in my heart, or what is stained in my soul, but I know a guy who can, and has and does! I can’t go back and fix those mistakes that I have made or heal the hurt that I have caused or erase the sins that I have committed by commission or omission. But I know a guy who, by his very blood has taken care of all those things, not because of what I’ve done, but because of who He is. You see, that sticker is not about my ability or inability to do anything, it is a statement of faith about the one who is able to do all things. That passage from Philippians that proclaims “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” is not a boast about our strength or ability, it is a recognition of the one who provides the strength and ability to do all things. I know a guy, and His name is Jesus, the name that is above all names. The name at which every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that He is Lord! Yes, I know a guy and by the grace of God He knows me as well. Do you know a guy? I pray that you do, but if not, I would be happy to introduce you and I know that He would be delighted to meet you too!
Is there something that you cannot do, I know a guy!
